I'm a 4th generation farmer in Michigan's thumb. I've been growing heirloom dry beans for 8 years and direct marketing them to restaurants and online, but I'm interested in expanding further into heirloom small grains and corn. We've always farmed a diversified rotation and have used cover crops. My wife and I are purchasing the original homestead and have hopes of experimenting with new cover crop practices to further build our soil. My hopes are to be able to farm an even rotation of corn, wheat, and edible beans that I'm able to direct market to end users looking for heirloom crops produced locally. We are also constructing a cleaning line to process or beans for sale that would also be used for our grains.
