About Shelly's Farm
We are a small family-run farm in Brentwood Ca, Contra Costa County. Our practices and goals are to raise our flocks the best and most humane way we can.We raise our hens from day-old chicks and raise our hens on pasture where they can roam and scratch for bugs. We custom blend the grains they eat so there are no fillers, hormones, or antibiotics in the feed. Our pasture has had no chemicals or commercial fertilizer in 30 years.We seed either organic or non-GMO pasture seed that contains grasses, clover, triticale, fava beans, common vetch, forage peas, mustard, and daikon radish seeds, depending on the time of year.We use our own chicken manure from under the covered areas to compost.We age it, compost it and return it to the pasture as a top cover. There is fresh water to drink, nesting beds, and a roost that make the girls feel at home. We rotate the pastures the hens are on so they are always on fresh grass. Along with fresh eggs, we also sell whole chickens at some markets.
